Art space: The Margi Hotel - An oasis of luxury on the Athenian Riviera

Vouliagmeni has always had something magical about it. Maybe it's the cause of the sun reflecting in the turquoise waters of the Saronic Gulf, or maybe the mystery of the lake with healing properties, hidden among the cliffs. However, it was The Margi - a boutique hotel with the soul of an artist - that became for me the place where I discovered a whole new dimension of Greek luxury.

It is the essence of the art of living, where architecture, design and local culture come together in one perfectly composed work.

Luxury that doesn't scream - it tells stories

From the first moment I felt that this place was not created for those who are just looking for a prestigious address. The Margi attracts people with a sensitivity to beauty - those who know that true luxury lies in authenticity.

It's the family creation of Maria Stavridis and her son Yiangos Agiostratitis, an architect who combined classical Greek elegance with ethereal Mediterranean casualness with remarkable precision. As I strolled through the hotel's corridors, I could feel how the warm light mussing the marble walls tells the story of the place - nothing is random here.

Eyes wander over intricately chosen details: antique vases from Crete stand next to contemporary sculptures, and golden lamps from Morocco cast soft shadows on wooden panels reminiscent of ancient Athenian villas. It's a space where history and modernity dance in perfect harmony.

Rooms: an immersion in aesthetics

After a day on a private beach, I settled into my apartment - a place that might as well have been the setting for a movie about Greek aristocracy. The interior was subtle but full of character: linen curtains waved gently at the open balcony doors, and the minimalist but carefully chosen furniture evoked the austere elegance of the Aegean.

Every element of the room had its own significance - a rug brought from Morocco, handmade ceramics from Santorini, mid-century modern style armchairs. It's a tribute to design lovers who can see the beauty in the balance between tradition and modernity.

Dinner among the olive trees

When evening came, I walked down to Malabar, the hotel's restaurant, where the magic doesn't end with the interior aesthetics. Tables are set under olive trees, and the air smells of rosemary and sea salt. The chef, who has worked for years in some of the world's finest restaurants, now celebrates Greek cuisine in its most authentic form.

The table featured burrata from local farms, grilled octopus served with creamy fava puree and a glass of biodynamic assyrtiko, a wine that tastes like a Greek summer. Each bite was like a journey through the islands, through ancient flavors that haven't changed in thousands of years.

Soul of the place

The Margi is not a hotel. It's the art of hospitality, thought out and refined down to the smallest detail. It's a place that draws you into its world and makes you forget the reality outside its walls.

Leaving here, I felt like I left behind not just a hotel room, but a piece of a dream I'll want to return to. Because true luxury isn't about labels and the number of stars - it's about the emotions that stay with us long after we check into reality.
